It is a chronic disease, also well - known like idiopática ulcerativa colitis, that affects to the colon and rectum and whose diagnosis is not nothing simple, since the symptoms can be confused with parasitic or bacterial diseases.

This disease affects young people of both sexes, but a greater incidence in women between the 20 and 40 years of age is observed.

Also it seems to be a factor of risk, the one that some relative of first degree (parents or brothers) suffer it.

Other factors identified and studied like of risk, without to have verified really their influence, are:

the frequent infections.

the environmental factors.

the allergies to some foods.

the tobacco consumption.

the use of oral contraceptives.

The people who often suffer it have circulating antibodies against antigens of the diet, bacterial and autoantígenos of isotipo IGG.

This disease affects only the heavy intestine and to the rectum, without extending to the thin intestine and causes diffuse inflammations in the affected zones.

Like result of this disease, when a crisis appears, the intestine can present / display injuries in the mucosa and submucosa, presence of abscesses and ulcers and "small barren islands", of mucosa sobrehigh that receive the name of pseudopolyps.
