This tree embellishes the tropical regions of America. In Mexico abounds in the region of Tierra Caliente, from Morelos and Guerrero to Tabasco and Chiapas. Its medicinal properties are highly valued as a laxative, and virtually irreplaceable, so it is part of various preparations laxatives used throughout the world.

Habitat: typical of tropical regions: India, Southeast Asia, Caribbean, Central America. Is absent in Europe.

Description: tree of the family of pulses, 12 to 15 meters in height. Its flowers are pink or yellow in bunches. The fruit is a pod long, cylindrical, brown or black, which is located inside partition walls, and it contains, in addition to seeds, a pulp black sweet taste.

Properties and indications: the thick black and sweet flesh of the fruits of cañafístula contains, in addition to various sugars and mucilages, a small amount of Anthraquinone derivatives, among which dominates the queen. This mixture of active ingredients gives it a mild laxative action, free of irritating or laxative effect on the intestine. It is therefore very useful in all types of constipation, and especially about the kindness of their action in the case of children and the elderly.

Use: diluted pulp at a rate of 30 to 60 grams per liter of boiling water, strain and take 1 to 2 cups in the morning. It also takes the flesh eaten directly, just 5 grams to cause a laxative effect.
