Used Part.
The resinous exudates obtained by incising the trunk.
Active Principles.
Resin (80%) alcohols resínicos combined with benzoic acid and Cinnamic. Acid - free aromatics (10 - 15% of Cinnamic, 8% of Benzoic) esters (benzyl benzoate and cinnamate) traces of vanillin, eugenol, acid ferúlico.
Drug Action.
Stimulant, expectorant, béquico, spasmolytic, digestive, antiseptic, healing, antiparasitic.
Indications.
Respiratory
conditions:
bronchitis
,
asthma
,
pulmonary emphysema
, irritative cough, sore throat, laryngitis,
tracheitis
.
Cystitis
,
urethritis
. In topical use: wounds, skin ulcers,
scabies
.
Side Effects.
Its topical use can cause
contact
dermatitis
in susceptible individuals.
Galenica forms / Dosage.
Syrup (5 - 10%) in association with other plants or expectorants béquicas: Three or four tablespoons per day.
Fluid extract (1:
1) 15 to 30 drops three times daily.
Tincture (1:
5) 30 - 50 drops, one to three times
a
day, or topical application.
