Active Principles.

Sesquiterpenes lactones (centaurina) structure similar to the cnidina, flavonoids (astragalus, rutoside, luteola) calcitrápico acid, potassium salts, resin, beta - sitosterol. Traces of alkaloids.

Drug Action.

Plant poorly studied. Properties are attributed antipyretic, appetizers, digestive, diuretic, colerética and hypoglycemic.

Indications.

Inappetence, dyspepsia hiposecretoras, hyperglycemia, influenza, colds, Hepatobiliary dyskinesias.

Contraindications.

Pregnancy, infancy.

Caution / Poisoning.

When prescribing a diabetic, you should monitor blood glucose, to adjust the dose of insulin or oral agents.

The Centaurea calcitrapa is toxic to livestock, producing encefalomalacia nigripalidans to horses when consumed as forage.

Galenica forms / Dosage.

Infusion: 20 to 40 grams per liter. Infuse 10 minutes. Take 3 to 5 cups a day.

Decoction: 20 g / l, simmer 5 minutes. 3 to 5 cups a day.

Suspension of fresh plant: 125 to 160 g per day.
