The bark of the root.
Active Principles.
Plant poorly studied.
Has
been isolated: Acid piscídico, piscidina (mixture of glycosides) rotenone, phytosterols (beta - sitosterol) traces of alkaloids.
Drug Action.
Slightly sedative, analgesic, spasmolytic. The insecticide rotenone is. Popularly, in
Central
America
, is used by ictiotóxicas their properties.
Indications.
Anxiety,
insomnia
, neurovegetative, varicose veins, neuralgia, dismenorreas,
irritable bowel syndrome
.
Contraindications.
Pregnancy
, infancy,
children
.
Do not prescribe oral dosage forms with
alcohol
content to
children
under two years or consultants in the process of
alcohol
addiction
.
Side Effects.
It can produce
a
narcotic effect, together with Mydriasis, profuse sweating and increased blood pressure.
Caution / Poisoning.
By the presence of rotenone and alkaloids in
nature
and not determined pending further studies to better explain its mechanism of action and possible toxicity, we recommend avoiding oral administration, or doing low - dose formulations as
a
complement to, in short treatments.
Take into account the
alcohol
content of the fluid extract and tincture.
Galenica forms / Dosage.
Infusion 3%:
one to three cups
a
day.
Fluid extract (1:
10) 10 - 20 drops, one to three times
a
day.
Tincture (1:
10) 30 - 50 drops, two or three times
a
day.
Dry extract (1:
5) 25 mg / dose. One to three
a
day.
