Active Principles.
Starch, fats, resins, salicylic acid and oxalic.
Drug Action.
Popularly used as lipid lowering, demulcent and diuretic.
Indications.
Hypercholesterolemia
, prevention of
arteriosclerosis
. States that require an increase in urine output: genito -
urinary
disorders
, hiperazotemia, hyperuricemia, gout, high blood pressure, edema,
overweight
accompanied by fluid retention.
Gastritis
, ulcus. In topical use: eczema.
Caution / Poisoning.
The use of diuretics in the presence of
hypertension
or heart
disease
, should be done only by prescription and under medical supervision, given the possibility of occurrence of decompensation or
tension
, if the elimination of
potassium
is considerable, enhancing the effect of
cardiac
.
Galenica forms / Dosage.
Decoction:
one to two tablespoons per cup, and let boil 5 minutes macerated 6 to 8 hours. Take 1 to 3 cups
a
day.
