Active Principles.
Essential
oil called "essence of Wintergreen" (0. 5 - 0. 8%) gaulterina, unfold at the methyl salicylate and
spring
. Acid - phenols: salicylic, caféico. Heterósidos hydroquinone: arbutósido. Tannins Catechists.
Drug Action.
The monotropitósido (gaulterina) is hydrolyzed by the
bacteria
, resulting in methyl salicylate, an anti - inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, anticoagulant; The arbutósido
has
a
urinary
antiseptic. The
essential
oils in topical use,
has
a
rubefaciente. The tannins give it an astringent (antidiarrheal local hemostatic, healing)
Indications.
Rheumatism, neuralgia,
influenza
- like illnesses, colds, prevention of thromboembolism,
cystitis
,
urethritis
, ureteritis,
pyelonephritis
,
diarrhea
, wounds.
Contraindications.
Gastric ulcers, treatment with anticoagulants or hemostats.
Do not prescribe to pregnant women, infants or
children
under two years.
Caution / Poisoning.
The
essential
oil, via internal, it can produce great irritation of the gastric mucosa. The abuse of this plant by an internal frame (salicilismo) characterized by:
tinnitus
, nausea and vomiting, which is due to the excessive dosage of salicylates.
