GUAYACAN
Used Part.
The
sapwood
of the trunk and the resinous secretion.
Active Principles.
Resin (20 - 25%) composition of complex:
guayacirresinol, acids alpha and beta guayacónico, guayacínico, dihidroguayarético, guayarético.
Essential
oil (5%) in rich Sesquiterpenes alcohols: guayol, bulnesol; starch, benzoic acid, traces of vanilina.
Drug Action.
Saluretics and uricosuric diuretic, diaphoretic. In topical use: analgesic, anti - inflammatory, rubefaciente.
Indications.
States that require an increase in urine output:
genitourinary
disorders
(
cystitis
, ureteritis,
urethritis
,
pyelonephritis
, oliguria, urolithiasis) hiperazotemia, hyperuricemia, gout, high blood pressure, edema,
overweight
accompanied by fluid retention.
In topical use:
Inflammation osteo,
myalgia
,
muscle
contractures.
Contraindications.
Do not apply over areas blemished skin.
Do not prescribe dosage forms with
alcoholic
content for oral administration in
children
under two years or consultants in the process of
alcohol
addiction
.
Caution / Poisoning.
It can be irritating to skin and mucous membranes.
Take into account the
alcohol
content of the fluid extract and tincture.
Galenica forms / Dosage.
Decoction:
one teaspoon per cup of
coffee
, boil 10 minutes, three cups
a
day, after meals.
Fluid extract (1:
1) 25 to 50 drops once or twice
a
day.
Tincture (1:
5) 50 - 100 drops, two or three times
a
day.
Resin, powder:
0. 1 to 1 gram per day in three doses.
