Active Principles.
Leaves:
Tannins (7 - 10%) * gálicos and elágicos, gallic acid free; phenolic acids, flavonoids, flavones derivatives, traces of
essential
oil (safrole) proantocianósidos,
bitter
principles.
* RFE:
the dry drug must contain at least 7% of tannins.
Crust:
Tannins (2 - 10%) hamamelitaninos alpha, beta and gamma, condensed tannins; traces of
essential
oil; saponosides.
Drug Action.
The astringent tannins produce an effect (antidiarrheal local hemostatic, healing) and bactericidal; the flavonoids and Vasoprotectives venotónico effect: it increases the elasticity of the veins and capillary resistance, reduces the permeability.
Indications.
In internal use:
diarrhea
. Varicose veins,
hemorrhoids
,
phlebitis
.
In topical use:
wounds, parodontopatías, sore throat, skin and
corneal
ulceration, blefaroconjuntivitis,
dermatitis
,
erythema
, pruritus, vulvovaginitis,
bleeding
postafeitado (lotion)
Contraindications.
Gastritis
, gastroduodenal ulcer (see side effects)
Do not prescribe dosage forms with
alcoholic
content for oral administration in
children
under two years or consultants in the process of
alcohol
addiction
.
Side Effects.
The tannins can irritate the gastric mucosa, this side effect can be offset by associating with drug mucilages, as the
marshmallow
.
Caution / Poisoning.
Take into account the
alcohol
content of the fluid extract and tincture.
Galenica forms / Dosage.
Internal use:
Infusion (leaves) one teaspoon per cup dessert. Two cups
a
day.
Decoction (bark) 30 to 60 g / l, boil 2 minutes, two cups
a
day.
Fluid extract:
1 to 4 g / day (1g = 38 drops) in doses of 30 drops.
Tincture (1:
10) 50 - 100 drops, two to three times
a
day.
Dry extract (5:
1) 0. 3 to 1 g / day.
Dust:
0. 5 - 2 g / day.
Topical use:
Decoction (bark) 30 to 60 g / l, boil 2 minutes, two cups
a
day.
Fluid extract (1:
1) Dye (1: 5) or glycolic extract (1: 5) in the form of pomade, gel or cream: in varicose implement giving
a
massage
upstream.
Lotions (with
