Of the family of the Rosaceae.

Powerful astringent, used to cut diarrhea. To combat hemorrhoids.

Used Part.

The root and rhizome.

Active Principles.

Abundant tannins Catechists (15 - 20%) which during the process of drying and storage are becoming flobafenos; flavantrioles and procianidinas; elágicos tannins (6. 2%) elagitanino, gallic acid and elágico free. Pseudosaponósido: Storm; quinóvico acid, phenyl - carboxylic acids: caféico, p - coumarin, Sinap. Resin, rubber, traces of essential oil.

Drug Action.

For its wealth of tannins is a good drug astringent: antidiarrhoeal, local hemostatic, healing. Besides its effects have been shown as anti - inflammatory, antibacterial, antialergénico, antihypertensive, antiviral and immunostimulant.

Indications.

Diarrhea, prevention and treatment of colds and flu - like syndromes, adjunct in the treatment of hypertension. Hemorrhoids, capillary fragility, functional uterine bleeding, varicose veins.

In topical use: wounds, burns, stomatitis, glossitis, parodontopatías, pharyngitis, anal fissures, skin and corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, dermatitis, erythema, stretch marks, itching, vulvovaginitis, bleeding postafeitado (lotion)

Contraindications.

Dyspepsia hiposecretoras.

Do not prescribe oral dosage forms with alcohol content to children under two years or consultants in the process of alcohol addiction.

Side Effects.

For its abundance in tannins, it could be an irritant to the gastric mucosa. To avoid this we recommend combining it with marshmallow root.

Caution / Poisoning.

Take into account the alcohol content of the fluid extract and tincture.

Galenica forms / Dosage.

Internal use:

Decoction: 30 g / l, boil 10 minutes. Three or four cups a day.

Maceration: 5 g / l. Leave macerated for 12 hours. Take three or more cups a day. It has the advantage that it retains a greater proportion of tannins, not hydrolysed by the action of heat.

Dust: 2 to 4 g / day, in capsules.

Dry extract (5: 1) 250 - 500 mg / capsule. One to eight per day.

Fluid extract (1: 1) 30 - 50 drops, one to three times a day.

Tincture (1: 10) 50 - 100 drops, one to three times a day.

External use:

Maceration decoction or 5%. Apply in the form of lotions, towels, mouthwash, gargarismos or vaginal irrigations.
