Active Principles.

Plant poorly studied. Contains: saponosides steroids; flavonoids (kenferol, quercitrósido, diosgenin, hecogenina, ruscogenina, espirosta - 3, 5 - diene) and traces of alkaloids: harmano, norharmano.

Drug Action.

Analgesics, spasmolytic, diuretic and azotúrico uricosuric and, through the skin, astringent (local hemostatic, healing)

Indications.

Not currently used. Has been popularly used for the treatment of urinary tract stones (especially in case of nephritic colic) and hypertension. Topically: wounds, eczema, stomatitis, pharyngitis and parodontopatías.

Contraindications.

Pregnancy, infancy, children. Patients or problems hepatopathies photosensitivity.

Do not prescribe dosage forms with alcohol content (fluid extract, tincture, syrup to consultants in the process of alcohol addiction)

Caution / Poisoning.

The use of diuretics in the presence of hypertension or heart disease, should be done only by prescription and under medical supervision, given the possibility of occurrence of decompensation or tension, if the elimination of potassium is considerable, enhancing the effect of cardiac.

It has been observed that the alkaloids (harmano and norharmano) exerting a neurotoxic irreversible about the animals that consume it back repeatedly, to hang neurons associated with tryptamine in the CNS. In addition, the saponosides steroids presents a hemolytic action, as demonstrated in vivo in lambs. We recommend avoiding their use by domestic and in any case prescribe low - dose, in discontinuous treatments.

Galenica forms / Dosage.

See precautions.

Infusion: one teaspoon per cup of coffee. Two or three cups a day.

Decoction of 2 - 3%, 100 to 150 thousand fasting.

Maceration 1 - 2%, taking 250 thousand fasting.

Fluid extract (1: 1) 10 drops, one to three times a day.

Tincture (1: 10) 20 - 30 drops three times daily.

Topically, the decoction, in the form of washes, towels or friction.
